When you teach a class where virtually no written work goes home, that is essentially the only way to showcase student learning. They also spark conversations at home, allowing students to discuss what they’ve learned with their families. Many teachers have students create a portfolio to hold various activities that are completed certik seesaw throughout the school year. Google Drive is a go-to for me as far as organizing and storing teaching resources. This would also work for students to upload and organize their completed tasks. I do have to say though, Seesaw is a bit more kid-friendly, especially for little learners in kindergarten and first grade.
She’s inspired by the way her district supports teachers and students with mathematics instruction. At the start of the year, teachers in Downers Grove considered how they might use Seesawas a platform to make student thinking visible. They were interested in whether it could allow students to easily capture, demonstrate, and explain their thinking. They would create a rubric with the teacher outlining all the criteria and knowledge they would need to attain and include in their creative project. This project could be a rap about the human body where students reference a grading rubric that outlines what content is required to incorporate into their project.
Often during feedback, students write that there is nothing that needs to be changed or improved, that is why we use the T-A-G sentence starters to guide students for how they can provide constructive suggestions. Teachers will incorporate the use of formative and summative assessments with each unit of inquiry the classroom covers. Seesaw’s video tools also make evaluating student performances easier.

This helps inform the teachers of how each child is progress and retaining understanding of specific math concepts and skills.
